Technical Information

Participants in the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE competition go through rigorous reviews before they can bring their vehicle(s) to the track for the final stages of the competition.

At the close of Registration in February 2009, a total of 111 Registration Applications were accepted by the review panel. These Registered Teams were then required to complete the Design Judging process, which included providing detailed technical data on their vehicle(s) and an in-depth business plan that addressed how the team planned to take their vehicle to market in the next five years.

A total of 43 teams representing 53 vehicles ultimately passed the Design Judging phase at the end of October 2009 to advance to the next phase of the competition. Many of these Qualified Teams attended the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE Technical Team Summit in Las Vegas in November 2009. During the Technical Team Summit, participants were provided with specifics about the competition, testing requirements, anticipated Guideline amendments and more.
