Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE
enters next phase of Competition

On October 19th, the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE announced the 43 Qualified Teams who received passing scores from the Design Judges and are therefore qualified to progress to the next stage of the competition. The Design Judging process, whereby a team of select automotive experts evaluated 97 registered entries reduced the field by more than half. The remaining teams will bring a total of 53 vehicles (28 Mainstream and 25 Alternative Class) into the next stage of the competition.

Qualified Teams have passed two hurdles – the Registration process and Design Judging. The next phase of the competition is the technical qualifiers, which begin in Spring 2010.

You can follow the progress of your favorite team here on the Progressive Automotive X PRIZE website by visiting the team pages and signing up for their various social networking updates.

Registration for the Competition Division of the Progressive Automotive X PRIZE closed on February 28, 2009. The Demonstration Division of the competition remains open. If you have not already done so, please make sure to sign up to receive regular updates about the teams and the competition.

People love their cars. They are vital links to our jobs, our community, ourselves. For everything we love about them, cars are chained to the most severe global crises of our time: oil dependence and climate change.

Through an exciting partnership with Progressive Insurance, the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE invites teams from around the world to focus on a single goal: design viable, clean and super-efficient cars that people want to buy.

This will be a competition for the ages, with major publicity and $10 million waiting for the champions… and perhaps our future hanging in the balance.
